Youth In Progress

Youth involved in the foster care, mental health and/or juvenile justice systems often become too dependent on those systems and do not learn the skills they need to become independent and successful. The Youth In Progress program helps teenagers with their transition to adulthood, providing the necessary tools and skills sets to function on their own.

The program helps youth develop daily living skills such as money management, interpersonal and professional communication, conflict resolution, job coaching and healthy living skills. In addition to adolescents involved with state systems, we offer this program to any teenager who wants to develop and demonstrate his or her own individual leadership skills.

YIP youth also have an opportunity to make a real difference in their own communities by designing, organizing and executing community service projects. Projects may include organizing food drives that benefit local food banks or volunteering at the local senior center, animal shelter or homeless shelter. This work instills in them a sense of civic responsibility and the value of giving back to the community.

Specific services include:

  • Life skills training
  • Interpersonal and professional communication training
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Job coaching
  • Community service projects
  • Driver's education

The Youth In Progress Driver's Education School offers innovative classes to community youth at a reduced rate in exchange for their participation in a community service project. The curriculum includes 30 hours of classroom instruction, 18 hours of in-vehicle instruction that includes 12 hours behind the wheel and 6 hours of observation.
