Support and Stabilization Services (S&S) provide direct in-home and community-based services to youth either discharging from our residential facility or those referred to us by DCF or any other welfare related agency. The purpose of placement in the S&S program is to assist both the youths and families to reunite successfully or maintain their placement at home. This is done by teaching new skills, providing counseling and significant logistical support, teaching families how to connect to area services and resources, arranging respite services, introducing and delivering healthy recreation and diversion activities and resources, and importantly creating a friendly and comfortable relationship with DCF and the families to encourage them to take advantage of these resources when they are needed in the future. A Family Support Worker (FSW) is identified for each youth at intake. The FSW works with the youth and their family several days each week depending on need. The average duration of the service is 90 days, but varies with each family.
Over the past several years, kids involved in state systems throughout the Commonwealth have become more dependent on that system and are not exiting it with the skills needed to become productive contributing members of their communities. Through the Youth In Progress program, teenagers will be assisted in their transition to adulthood, provided the necessary tools and skill sets to function on their own. The focus of the YIP program is to help youth develop daily living skills such as money management, interpersonal and professional communication, conflict resolution, job coaching, and healthy living skills. In addition to adolescents involved with state systems, we offer this program to any teenager who wants to both develop and demonstrate his or her own individual leadership skills. Youth can be referred by school personnel, counselors or parents/guardians can contact the program directly. Through their participation in YIP, youths will also have opportunities to contribute to their communities through the community service projects they will design and execute. Examples of this include organizing food drives that benefit local food banks, volunteering at the local senior center, animal shelter or homeless shelters. This instills in them a sense of civic responsibility and the value of giving back to the communities.
We are a fully licensed Driver's Education School that offers innovative classes to community youth at a reduced rate in exchange for their participation in a community service project. The curriculum includes 30 hours of classroom instruction, 12 hours driving and observation on the road.
