South Hadley Girls Treatment Program

The South Hadley Girls Treatment Program is a staff-secure residential program for girls 13 to 18 referred by the Department of Youth Services. The girls attend either high school classes or GED courses and participate in a curriculum designed to impart new life skills to enable them to make healthier choices when re-entering their communities.

Up to 16 girls participate in educational and clinical programs and individual, group, and family therapy. They also engage in recreational activities, including Adventure Education. The average stay is three to eight months. With the support of a clinician, each girl develops an individual treatment plan, which includes exercises and strategies to increase coping skills and promote positive decision making.

The South Hadley program also serves as a staff-secure program for girls being reintegrated into the community from more secure settings. Residents progress through levels of supervision and motivational stages, enabling them to move from a structured to a less structured environment.
